Behavioural Science Hub Y&H

The behavioural and social sciences are particularly important for public health because many of the issues that undermine or enhance our health outcomes have structural, social and behavioural determinants.

On the 06th March, Public Health England Y&H & Health Education England Y&H held a Behavioural Science Symposium in Leeds. The symposium provided details on the launch of a new collaborative strategy Improving people’s health: applying behavioural and social sciences.  The event also focused on some of the key research and good practice that is already taking place in Yorkshire and the Humber.

The Behavioural Science Hub for Y&H

Following the success of this event, a decision was made to established a regional Behavioural Science Hub for the Yorkshire and Humber Region.  The Behavioural Science Hub will be jointly Chaired by Dr Grainne Dickerson (Bradford Council) and Prof Maddy Arden (Sheffield Hallam University).

The new regional behavioural sciences hub will –

  • Provide a digital repository of resources & good practice examples regionally & nationally
  • Provide learning opportunities for members to become behavioural science champions within their own sphere of practice
  • Build capacity & capability in behavioural & social science public health practice across the Yorkshire and the Humber
  • To provide a forum to scope, plan and become a regional exemplar on integrating health psychology practice into public health practice to improve health outcomes and reduce health inequalities
